WTA Cincinnati: Gauff avenges Wang Xinyu, set to face Yastremska

On August 10, 2025, the WTA 1000 Cincinnati tournament determined the women's singles top thirty-two spots. Former champion and second seed Gauff defeated Chinese player Wang Xinyu with a score of 6-3/6-2, avenging her loss at the WTA 500 Berlin earlier this year.

The increased pressure on her serve led to numerous errors from Wang, who, despite leading in points during her service games, allowed her opponent to catch up and break her serve multiple times, ultimately losing after 70 minutes of resistance. Throughout the match, Gauff had 5 break points and converted all of them; meanwhile, Wang had 7 break points but only converted 2.

In the next round, Gauff will face the 32nd seed Yastremska, who defeated Tomova with a score of 6-4/2-6/6-2. The two players have faced each other four times, with Gauff leading 3-1, but their most recent encounter at this year's Wimbledon saw the Ukrainian player winning in straight sets, sending the recent French Open champion out in the first round.

In the women's doubles, the 3rd seeds Zhang Shuai/Townsend lost to Melichar/Samsonova with a score of 3-6/5-7, while the 8th seeds Jiang Xinyu/Zhan Haoqing fell to Aoyama/Bruchsa with 2-6/6-7(4), both facing first-round exits.

At 0:30 AM Beijing time tomorrow, Yuan Yue will compete in the second match of the women's singles third round on Court 3 against Romanian veteran Cirstea, with the winner set to face Swiatek for a spot in the quarterfinals. Additionally, Xu Yifan/Yang Zhaoxuan and Guo Hanyu/Panova will compete in the women's doubles first round on the same day.
