ATP Cincinnati Masters: Alcaraz Defeats De Zuerch, Securing a Strong Start

On August 10, 2025, the ATP 1000 Cincinnati Masters entered its second round, where the tournament's second seed, Alcaraz, made his North American hardcourt debut. He ultimately triumphed over De Zuerch with a score of 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, advancing to the next round.

After the match, Alcaraz went to the practice court for extra training, stating, “I just wanted to release the negative emotions from this match through hitting the ball.” In this match, Alcaraz performed excellently in the first set, taking it in just 28 minutes; however, he was equalized by his opponent in the second set and ultimately won after three sets. “There weren’t many rallies in the first set, and I didn’t find a good rhythm; my opponent played better in the second set, and I made mistakes at the beginning, which caused me to completely lose my feel.”

“On the Cincinnati courts, when you lose your touch in two or three points, it’s hard to regain it; everything happens too quickly, and the ball moves even faster than before. However, I’m glad I overcame these issues and played excellent tennis in the third set.”

Alcaraz’s opponent in the third round will be Serbian player Medjedovic, who defeated Griekspoor with a score of 6-4, 7-6(3). Alcaraz recalled, “We are the same age and have been playing matches together since we were 14, but this will be our first encounter on the ATP tour, so we can see how far we’ve both come. He (Medjedovic) is a power player, making it harder to beat him on fast courts, so I need to be well-prepared.”
