Cincinnati Update: Rublev battles hard to advance, Zverev just one game short, Alcaraz progresses smoothly.

In the recently concluded third round of the lower half, Alcaraz advanced, Zverev's match was interrupted by rain, and Shelton's match has been postponed until tomorrow.

Seeded second, Alcarazdefeated Majchrzak 6-4/6-4, marking his 50th victory of the season. His opponent performed well and "replicated" Alcaraz's frequent drop shot strategy with a decent success rate. It’s unclear what Alcaraz thinks about this.

In the fourth round, Alcaraz will face Nardi. The latter is competing as a lucky loser, having benefited from Mencik's withdrawal during the third round, adding a stroke of luck. The score reached 6-2/2-1.

I’ve lost count of how many players have withdrawn mid-match in Cincinnati. Mencik is at least the fourth, right?

Ninth seed Rublevnarrowly defeated 21st seed Popelin 6-7(5)/7-6(5)/7-5. I didn’t watch the match, so I’m not sure if Rublev smashed his racket…

In the fourth round, Rublev will faceArgentinian player Comesanawho defeated Opelka 6-7(4)/6-4/7-5. The score indicates that this victory was hard-earned. Comesana is a relatively unfamiliar name; he was born in 2000 and is nearly 25 years old. He was ranked 71 before the match. However, after consecutive wins against Munar, Darderi (29), and Opelka in Cincinnati, his ranking has improved to 55.

It's worth mentioning that Rublev was eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon 2024 by none other than Comesana! Most Argentine players excel on clay courts, so it seems this one is aiming to make his mark on hard and grass courts.

Third seed Zverevis just one game away from victory. Zverev recently broke serve, but suddenly a thunderstorm occurred, with the match against Nakashima at 6-4/5-4. They will continue tomorrow. Next up is Zverev's serve for the match.

This break is quite unfavorable for Zverev; everyone knows he isn't the type of player to instill great confidence in fans. Fortunately, there is a noticeable gap in skill between him and his opponent; if it were a TOP 20 player, it would be a different story.

If Zverev wins tomorrow, he will face Khachanov in the fourth round (the latter advanced by defeating Brooksby 6-3/6-3). The two just faced off in the semifinals in Toronto last week, where Khachanov emerged victorious. This time, Zverev should be looking to avenge that loss, right? Hopefully, Khachanov won't become the second Fritz that Zverev faces.

Twenty-second seed Leheckadefeated Walton 7-6(3)/7-6(5) to advance to the fourth round. His next opponent will be the winner of the match between fifth seed Shelton and Spanish veteran Agut. This match has also been rescheduled for tomorrow due to rain. This is very favorable for Shelton, who won the title in Toronto last week and will benefit from an extra day of rest. Moreover, he has a 2-0 head-to-head record, so Lehecka is likely to face Shelton in the fourth round.

Fourth round draw for the lower half:

Alcaraz faced Nardi in this year's Doha tournament, going the full three sets, with Alcaraz winning. From the previous two matches, Alcaraz seems to be a bit shaky; he lost a set to De Zutter in the second round and had a tough time against Majchrzak in the third round. It's likely that his match against Nardi won't be easy either.
