The renowned HLV predicts Djokovic's championship chances at the 2025 US Open.

Novak Djokovic enters the US Open as one of the top contenders, trailing only Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz – the duo that has dominated the last seven Grand Slam tournaments. The Serbian player, who last won a title in 2023, is expected by Rick Macci, the former coach of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, to have a successful tournament.

Djokovic is anticipated to perform well at the 2025 US Open.

At 38 years old, Djokovic remains a resilient symbol of world tennis. He was an essential member of the "Big Four" alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray.

As three of his rivals gradually retire or decline, Djokovic continues to maintain incredible stability and physical fitness, securing 24 Grand Slam titles – a record that is unlikely to be broken for many years to come.

Djokovic is eager to add more glory, especially at Flushing Meadows, where he has won four times (2011, 2015, 2018, and 2023). He is also the last player outside of Alcaraz and Sinner to win a Grand Slam. Since his victory at the 2023 US Open, Djokovic has reached the finals only once – at Wimbledon 2024, where he was defeated by Alcaraz after an outstanding match from the Spanish player.

Djokovic still harbors ambitions of winning a Grand Slam at the age of 38.

Additionally, Djokovic has reached four other Grand Slam semifinals, including all events in 2025. He withdrew in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open against Zverev due to injury, and subsequently lost to Sinner at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, with a score of 0-3. At the 2024 US Open, Djokovic exited in the third round against Alexei Popyrin (Australia) – his worst performance at a Grand Slam since the 2017 Australian Open.

Although the task of securing his 25th Grand Slam is daunting, Rick Macci remains confident that Djokovic can achieve this if the draw is favorable and his two biggest rivals – Sinner and Alcaraz – encounter difficulties. "He is the greatest player to ever hold a racket. But to win, Djokovic needs a manageable draw and hopes that either Alcaraz or Sinner stumbles. If he has to face both, it will be an extremely tough challenge," Macci shared with Tennis365.

Djokovic is currently seeded seventh and could potentially face second-seeded Alcaraz in the semifinals. This recalls the 2024 Australian Open, where Djokovic was seeded seventh and defeated Alcaraz in the quarterfinals after four sets. He certainly hopes to replicate that achievement.

However, the issue of match fitness remains a significant question, as he has not played a singles match since his semifinal loss to Sinner at Wimbledon. His last appearance before that was also a loss to Sinner in the Roland Garros semifinals. Djokovic will have the opportunity to regain his competitive rhythm at the newly revamped mixed doubles event at the US Open, partnering with fellow countrywoman Olga Danilovic.
