The updated draw for the US Open 2025 mixed doubles was just released, with organizers proudly confirming that Iga Swiatek, Jannik Sinner, and Carlos Alcaraz will be taking part.
Nevertheless, questions remain about whether they can actually participate, as the trio will have to make a hurried trip from Ohio to New York to play the first round at Flushing Meadows, due to their involvement in the Cincinnati Open finals earlier today (Vietnam time).
The new mixed doubles event at the US Open will take place on Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, featuring 16 confirmed pairs for this two-day competition. After weeks of speculation, the organizers have finally published the pairings and the draw. Some standout duos include Alcaraz with Emma Raducanu, Sinner playing alongside Katerina Siniakova, Swiatek and Casper Ruud forming a team, and Jack Draper with Jessica Pegula as the top seeds. Tennis icon Novak Djokovic is also set to appear, partnering with fellow Serbian Olga Danilovic.
For the draw, top seeds Pegula and Draper will face Raducanu and Alcaraz, Swiatek and Ruud will play against Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe, while Siniakova and Sinner are matched up with Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev. The match schedule has also been announced, and unexpectedly, all matches in New York will take place during the day.
Sinner, Alcaraz, and Swiatek will have very limited time to recover if they compete in the US Open 2025 mixed doubles event.
The match between Naomi Osaka and Gael Monfils versus Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti will kick off at Arthur Ashe Stadium today. That match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. New York time (10:00 p.m. Vietnam time). Following that, Swiatek and Ruud will take on Keys and Tiafoe. This match is scheduled right after the opener, so it should start around 12:30 p.m. local time (11:30 p.m. Vietnam time).
However, the main issue is the Cincinnati Open final, where Swiatek is set to face Jasmine Paolini in Ohio. The Swiatek-Paolini match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Mason (5:00 a.m. Vietnam time). This means the Wimbledon champion will have to leave immediately after the final to fly to New York if she wants to play on Tuesday morning.
Sinner and Alcaraz are in a slightly better situation, as the men's final is at 3:00 p.m. (2:00 a.m. Vietnam time) in Ohio, while their US Open mixed doubles matches are set for midday. The Alcaraz-Raducanu vs. Pegula-Draper match will not start before 2:00 p.m. (1:00 a.m. Vietnam time) at Arthur Ashe, and Sinner-Siniakova won't take the court before 3:00 p.m. (2:00 a.m.). The teams that win their first matches will move on to the quarterfinals later that day, with the semifinals and finals scheduled for Wednesday.
This may be the reason why Paolini withdrew from the mixed doubles event, as she was originally supposed to team up with fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, but decided to pull out at the last minute, leading to Musetti partnering with McNally instead.
