Rumors are spreading that another Vietnamese female volleyball star is about to play abroad, competing in one of the world’s top 5 volleyball leagues.

After Thanh Thúy, there could be another Vietnamese female volleyball star going abroad to play in Japan. Who might that be?

Will middle blocker Bích Thủy play in Japan?

In every respect, Bích Thủy is predicted to be the star most likely to play in Japan soon. Regarding physique, fitness, and age, Bích Thủy (25 years old, 1.84m) meets the criteria very well.

In terms of form, Bích Thủy has also shown high and stable performance recently. She has performed well in all matches where Coach Tuấn Kiệt gave her playing time with the Vietnamese national team in tournaments since the start of this year.

Especially, Bích Thủy has a very strong mindset and is one of the few Vietnamese players who can perform well in major, difficult matches. She scored a total of 22 points in two matches against Thailand in two stages of the SEA V.League 2025 (11 points in stage 1 and 11 in stage 2), and scored 9 points in the match against Poland, currently ranked top 4 in the world, at the 2025 Women’s Volleyball World Championship.

Regarding international experience, Bích Thủy has proven her quality in both the Thai and Korean national leagues. Besides Trần Thị Thanh Thúy, she is one of the rare Vietnamese female volleyball stars still active who has gained international experience and demonstrated her talent in foreign national leagues.

In 2018, at just 18 years old, Bích Thủy was given the opportunity to play for the Air Force club in the Thai national league.

Living up to expectations, Bích Thủy scored a total of 147 points, ranking among the top 6 scorers in the league and winning the "Best Middle Blocker of the Thai League" award for the 2018-2019 season.

Additionally, she ranked second in the list of best blockers in the Thai League that season with 42 successful blocks, just one block behind the legendary Pleumjit Thinkaow.

In the 2024-2025 Korean national league season, Bích Thủy played only about two months for the GSS Caltex club, and despite limited sets, she made the most of her chances to prove her quality.

Bích Thủy was selected twice in the best lineup of the round during the Korean league last season. At ASIAD 2023, she also played the role of hero for the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team in the historic match against South Korea.

Bích Thủy scored 17 points, including 8 points in the third set, helping Vietnam make a stunning comeback to win 3-2 against South Korea, marking the first time in history that Vietnam reached the top 4 in women’s volleyball at ASIAD.

Bích Thủy impressed so much that after the match, Kim Yeon Koung, the greatest outside hitter in the history of women’s volleyball, praised her live on KBS TV.

Returning to Japan, it is clear that most Japanese women’s volleyball clubs do not lack talented outside hitters and setters but do lack skilled middle blockers. Even the Japanese national team, a top team globally, often lacks top-level middle blockers.

Even Thanh Thúy, when playing for the PFU Blue Cats in the Japanese league, mainly played as a middle blocker, although she plays as an outside hitter in Vietnam. This shows that Japan still needs high-level middle blockers. That is why Bích Thủy is mentioned more than any other Vietnamese female volleyball player.
