The Ho Chi Minh City Police Volleyball Club continues to attract attention in the transfer market by completing the signing of foreign player Martin Licek (Czech Republic).
The Ho Chi Minh City Police Volleyball Club remains in the spotlight in the transfer market after securing the recruitment of foreign player Martin Licek. The Czech attacker recently participated in the national team that reached the top 4 at the 2025 World Championship in the Philippines. This marks the team's second foreign signing after Michal Kubiak, demonstrating Ho Chi Minh City Police's strong ambition for the championship race this year.
Born in 1995, Martin Licek stands 1.97 meters tall, with a spike reach of 3.33 meters and a block reach of 3.45 meters. Although he only came off the bench for the Czech national team, he still made an impact by scoring 7 points in the third-place match against Poland. Considering the team was not highly rated, reaching the top four in the world is seen as a remarkable achievement, to which Licek contributed significantly.
Immediately after the tournament ended, the 30-year-old outside hitter flew directly from the Philippines to Vietnam to join Ho Chi Minh City Police for the second phase of the National Championship. He had about two weeks to get acquainted with his new teammates and environment before entering crucial matches.
Adding a quality foreign player is considered a strategic move by the club, as Licek can serve as an effective backup option, bringing a surprise element at critical moments thanks to his height and versatile scoring ability.
Ho Chi Minh City Police currently leads the National Volleyball Championship standings with a perfect streak of 5 wins. Bien Phong has the same number of wins but ranks lower due to inferior set ratios. The confrontation between the two teams in the final round of the group stage will be decisive for the top position, providing a significant advantage heading into the semifinals.
