Set 1: Bien Phong 21-25 The Cong
The opening set was highly exciting and fiercely contested, with neither team gaining more than a 2-point lead early on. The turning point came when Bien Phong unexpectedly made some poor first-step receptions, allowing The Cong Tan Cang to pull ahead by 2 points.
Not only did The Cong maintain their advantage, but they also extended the gap thanks to the outstanding performance of Indonesian superstar Rivan Nurmulki. The first set win was surprising but well deserved for Coach Thai Anh Van's team.
Set 2: Bien Phong 31-29 The Cong
The Cong Tan Cang started set 2 impressively again, with foreign player Rivan Nurmulki continuing to show his worth, while Bien Phong’s setter Dinh Van Duy showed signs of mental strain.
At one point, Coach Thai Anh Van’s team had a comfortable lead. However, Bien Phong made a strong comeback, leveling the score and exchanging points for the rest of the set. The defending champions capitalized on their set-point chances to claim a dramatic 31-29 win.
Set 3: Bien Phong 25-20 The Cong
It seemed the narrow loss in set 2 affected The Cong’s mindset in the third set. Although they played well in this crucial set, they unexpectedly faltered during the final sprint, allowing Bien Phong to continuously score and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set 4: Bien Phong 24-26 The Cong
The psychological pressure eased for the Bien Phong players as Coach Tran Dinh Tien’s squad started strong in set 4, with standout performances from Van Hiep and Ngoc Thuan. Rivan appeared fatigued and less effective in the first half, giving Bien Phong a chance to widen the gap.
Just when it seemed the final was decided, The Cong showed remarkable resilience, coming back strongly in the latter half of the set, leaving Bien Phong stunned. The defending champions reached championship point, but The Cong saved it successfully and managed to block Van Hiep, pushing the match into a decisive fifth set. An incredible comeback by Cong Duc and his teammates.
Set 5: Bien Phong 15-12 The Cong
The Cong initially played better in the decisive fifth set, but Bien Phong quickly caught up and took the lead following a mistake by Xuan Sinh. Rivan continued to be tightly marked by Bien Phong’s blockers, and Coach Tran Dinh Tien’s team showed endurance and composure to maintain their advantage, winning the national volleyball championship for the second consecutive year.
Final result, Bien Phong defeated The Cong Tan Cang 3-2 (21-25; 31-29; 25-20; 24-26; 15-12).
