Spiker Trần Thị Thanh Thúy stood out impressively in the Japan Volleyball League by securing a spot among the top 10 point scorers following two opening matches with Gunma Green Wings.
Outside hitter Trần Thị Thanh Thúy is off to an impressive start in the 2025-2026 Japan Women's Volleyball League (SV.League), ranking among the top scorers after the first two rounds wearing the Gunma Green Wings jersey.
In the opening match against Queenseis Kariya, Thanh Thúy was trusted by the head coach to start as the main outside hitter. She quickly proved her worth by scoring 17 points, playing a key role in Gunma Green Wings’ 3-1 victory and a strong season start.
The following day, in a rematch with the same opponent, Gunma Green Wings couldn’t maintain their form and lost 1-3. However, Thanh Thúy remained a standout performer by scoring 20 points, the highest on the team. In total, she accumulated 37 points across two matches, including 35 attack points, 1 block point, and 1 direct service ace.
According to SV.League organizers’ statistics, Thanh Thúy currently ranks 7th among the top 10 scorers, trailing the leader Mckenzie May (Astemo Rivale Ibaraki), who has scored 51 points. This is a remarkable achievement as she is one of the few Southeast Asian foreign players to be featured among the top scorers in a league filled with world-class athletes.
Gunma Green Wings currently sit 8th out of 14 in the standings. Although the team has yet to make a significant breakthrough in collective results, Thanh Thúy’s consistency and effectiveness are helping maintain a positive competitive spirit early in the season.
In the next match on October 18th, Gunma Green Wings will face NEC Red Rockets, the back-to-back champions of the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons, who are considered top contenders for this year’s title. This will be a major challenge for Thanh Thúy and her teammates.
