The 2026 National Volleyball Championship is expected to keep the same format.

It is highly probable that the 2026 National Volleyball Championship will still follow the two-round competition format.

The 2026 National Volleyball Championship is expected to maintain the current two-round format to preserve professional stability and ensure a reasonable schedule for the teams.

A representative from the Vietnam Volleyball Federation stated that the organization is planning early for the 2026 season, with maintaining the two-round format considered the optimal approach. “We are calculating to allow enough time to organize the 2026 national championship. Most likely, the current two-round format will still be applied to ensure the quality of the competition,”the representative shared.

Unlike 2025, the year 2026 does not feature the SEA Games but coincides with the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20) in Japan, where the Vietnamese volleyball team is likely to participate. Therefore, keeping the two-round format will help athletes maintain their form and facilitate the national team’s preparation.

The 2026 National Volleyball Championship will most likely retain the existing format.

However, the organization plan still needs consideration since the 2026 National Sports Festival is expected to take place in November. In years with this event, the national championship usually features only one round to avoid schedule conflicts and reduce the burden on teams. Nevertheless, the federation leans towards the two-round option to give players more opportunities to compete and gain experience.

The 2025 season marked a turning point by reducing the scale to 8 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams, significantly improving match quality. Each team plays 7 group-stage matches, then continues in either the finals or classification rounds, totaling 10 matches per season — a number deemed suitable for maintaining athletes’ fitness and performance.

Mr. Lê Trí Trường, Secretary General of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, said that the organization’s plans always aim to build a professional playing field that ensures competitiveness and quality. “We want to create the highest-level competition environment for the teams, while also providing players frequent chances to play and accumulate experience for the national team,” he said.

Currently, the promotion and relegation system remains unchanged: one men’s team and one women’s team finishing last will be relegated, while the two champions of Division A will qualify for next season’s national championship.
