Although she maintained impressive form, Trần Thị Thanh Thúy could not help Gunma Green Wings pull off an upset against NEC Red Rockets – the current runner-up of the 2025 Japan National Volleyball Championship. The Vietnamese star’s team lost 0-3 (20-25, 17-25, 22-25) in the third-round match.
Facing an opponent with a strong and balanced lineup, Gunma Green Wings found it very difficult to execute their game plan. The first two sets were completely dominated by NEC Red Rockets, who capitalized on their effective serving, solid defense, and varied attacks. Meanwhile, Gunma kept making mistakes in their first pass, limiting scoring opportunities for attackers, especially Thanh Thúy.

In the third set, Gunma played with more energy. Thanh Thúy and her teammates showed strong fighting spirit, repeatedly reducing the point gap and even taking the lead at times. However, NEC’s superior composure and quality allowed them to finish the match in three sets without losing any.
In this match, Thanh Thúy was again positioned as the main outside hitter and was one of Gunma’s top scorers with 9 points, despite not receiving many favorable sets from her teammates. Compared to the previous two games, Thanh Thúy’s performance was still highly rated due to her effective attacks from the wing and relentless fighting spirit.
With this defeat, Gunma Green Wings have yet to improve their ranking after the first three rounds. Nevertheless, Thanh Thúy’s performance continues to inspire hope among Vietnamese fans, as she remains one of the few bright spots in the rookie team of the Japanese National Volleyball Championship.
