The reason why the Vietnamese volleyball team officially will not participate in the 2025 World Championship

The reigning national champion team, VTV Bình Điền Long An, has officially confirmed their withdrawal from the 2025 FIVB Women's Club World Championship, which will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, from December 8 to 14, 2025.

This decision was announced on the evening of October 25, after the team’s leadership reached a consensus with the Vietnam Volleyball Federation.

The primary reason for the withdrawal is that the FIVB schedule conflicts with the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, where the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is aiming for their highest goal — winning a historic gold medal. Most of VTV Bình Điền Long An’s key players are also important members of the national team, making it impossible for the club to guarantee its strongest lineup for the global competition.

The reigning national champion team, VTV Bình Điền Long An, has officially confirmed their withdrawal from the 2025 FIVB Women's Club World Championship.

In the official announcement, the club’s representative stated: "VTV Bình Điền Long An always considers serving the national team as the top priority. Since the Women's Club World Championship takes place at the same time as the SEA Games, we cannot participate with our strongest squad. After discussions and receiving approval from the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, the team decided to withdraw. This was a difficult decision but demonstrates the team’s sense of responsibility and professionalism."

According to the Vietnam national team’s call-up list, head coach Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Hoa along with five key players including Võ Thị Kim Thoa, Lê Như Anh, Đặng Thị Kim Thanh, and Nguyễn Khánh Đang are all included. Furthermore, outside hitter Trần Thị Thanh Thúy, currently playing in Japan, is expected to return to join the Vietnamese team in December. With almost the entire main lineup absent, participating in the world championship is unfeasible for the Vietnamese volleyball representative.

Previously, VTV Bình Điền Long An secured their place in the 2025 Club World Championship by finishing as runners-up at the 2025 AVC Champions League, a historic achievement for the western region team. Therefore, the withdrawal is considered a great regret but also clearly shows the priority given to the national mission as Vietnamese volleyball aims for a major milestone at the 33rd SEA Games.

Withdrawing from the world tournament means Vietnam will not have a representative at this year’s most prestigious club-level competition. However, VTV Bình Điền Long An’s decision has gained much sympathy from fans, as it is made for the national pride, reflecting the spirit of sacrificing personal interests for the collective goal of the country’s sports.

With this spirit, VTV Bình Điền Long An confirms it will concentrate all efforts to support the Vietnamese women's team in their quest to conquer the 33rd SEA Games.
