Thanh Thúy and her teammates from Gunma Green Wings faced a thrilling yet disappointing game, falling 2-3 to Hisamitsu Springs at the 2025 Japan Volleyball Championship.
After an unsatisfactory first leg, Trần Thị Thanh Thúy and Gunma Green Wings entered the match against Hisamitsu Springs with strong determination, but once again her team failed to cause an upset, narrowly losing 2-3 in a dramatic encounter at the 2025 Japan Volleyball Championship.
In the first set, Gunma started cautiously, playing a safe style but lacked the sharpness to stop Hisamitsu’s powerful attacks. Although Thanh Thúy’s team managed to reduce the gap near the end, they still lost 22-25.
In the second set, Gunma improved as their attacks flowed smoothly. Thanh Thúy repeatedly scored with her signature cross-court spikes, helping the Japanese team equalize 1-1 by winning 25-21. The momentum continued into the third set where Gunma played explosively. A diverse offense, solid defense, and strong teamwork led them to an easy 25-18 victory, taking a 2-1 lead.
However, just when victory seemed within reach, Hisamitsu Springs — a traditionally strong Japanese club — showed their resilience at the crucial moment. They capitalized on Gunma’s minor errors at the end of the fourth set to win 25-22, pushing the match to a decisive fifth set.
In the fifth set, both teams delivered a thrilling back-and-forth battle. Gunma led at times, but Hisamitsu Springs’ experience and effective finishing in the final rallies secured them a 3-2 overall win.
Despite the loss, Thanh Thúy was a bright spot for Gunma with an impressive performance, contributing many points and playing a key role in the team’s tactics. Gunma Green Wings’ clear progress match by match, combined with their fighting spirit, is a positive sign for the upcoming stages in the 2025 Japan V.League season.
