Vietnamese volleyball will experience significant changes in 2026.

The 2026 National Volleyball Championship is expected to undergo significant changes in its competition format compared to the 2025 season, with the main goal of providing maximum opportunities for teams and players to gain experience and enhance their professional level.

At present, the technical department of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) along with the professional units of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training are thoroughly reviewing the draft regulations before the official release.

It is anticipated that the 2026 national championship will maintain the two-phase competition model, but the organizational approach will be adjusted to ensure fairness and increase the number of matches.

In both men’s and women’s categories, teams will continue to compete in the group stage using a round-robin points system. Each team will play 7 matches in round 1 and another 7 in round 2, raising the total group stage matches to 14. After completing this phase, the organizers will separate the teams: those with better results will enter the final round to compete for the championship, while the others will move to the relegation round.

The 2026 National Volleyball Championship is likely to see important adjustments in its competition format compared to the 2025 season.

Compared to the 2025 season, when each team only played 7 group matches (5 in round 1 and 2 in round 2), the new plan offers a fuller match schedule. Increasing the number of matches is a solution aimed at improving the quality of competition while also reducing the situation where teams settle the outcome too early, resulting in a lack of motivation in the final matches.

After the conclusion of the 2025 tournaments, VFV announced the list of 16 teams participating in the 2026 season. The women’s teams include: VTV Binh Dien Long An (defending champions), Ninh Binh, Military Signal Corps, Vietinbank, Duc Giang Lao Cai Chemicals, Thanh Hoa, Hung Yen, and Hanoi. The men’s teams consist of Bien Phong MB, The Cong Tan Cang, Ho Chi Minh City Police, Ninh Binh, Hanoi, Da Nang, Sanest Khanh Hoa, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The official regulations for the 2026 National Championship are expected to be finalized and sent to the teams at the beginning of 2026 so clubs can proactively prepare their personnel and technical plans. Also, round 1 of the 2026 championship is planned to be held at Dong Anh Gymnasium (Hanoi). Round 2 will be split into two venues: Ho Chi Minh City for the men’s teams and Vinh Long for the women’s teams. Because of the separate venues, round 2 will be extended to fit the travel and organizational schedules of each group.

These changes are expected to bring a more exciting and higher-quality season, thereby establishing a sustainable foundation for the development of Vietnamese volleyball in the new phase.
