Vietnam's tallest female volleyball middle blocker is currently enjoying a highly successful overseas journey in Mongolia.
Middle blocker Lý Thị Luyến and her team Hobby Ace have impressively secured a spot in the final of the 2025-2026 Mongolian Women's National Volleyball Championship following a favorable recent result against Khuvsgul Seven Stars.
Hobby Ace easily defeated Khuvsgul Seven Stars 3-0 (25-19; 25-22; 27-25). Lý Thị Luyến delivered an outstanding performance, including a crucial block that helped her team claim victory.
Nearly a week ago, Hobby Ace also won 3-1 against the same opponent, where Lý Luyến shone brightly and was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the match. Overall, Hobby Ace won 3-1 after four matches to advance to the final.
This is the first time Hobby Ace has reached the final of the Mongolian National Championship in four years.
Born in 2000, Lý Thị Luyến is currently the tallest middle blocker in Vietnamese women's volleyball. She was once called up to the national team but has not been selected in the last two years.
The 25-year-old hitter stands at an ideal height of 1.95 meters for the middle blocker position, providing a significant advantage in blocking.
Hobby Ace is the first foreign club in Lý Thị Luyến’s career. The middle blocker, contracted with Lào Cai Sports Training Center, previously tried out for the Korean National Volleyball League alongside teammates Trần Tú Linh and Trần Thị Bích Thủy early last year but was not accepted. Later, Bích Thủy got an opportunity when GS Caltex Seoul Kixx’s Asian foreign player was injured for the season, and the rest is history.
Hobby Ace has achieved notable success over the past five years, finishing as runners-up three times in the 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 seasons. However, the team missed the top three in the last three seasons.
With Lý Thị Luyến’s presence, Hobby Ace’s blocking ability has significantly improved. Another foreign player performing well for Hobby Ace is Hikaru Tamura from Japan.
