Đặng Thị Hồng's powerful spikes were unstoppable, scoring 54 points in the national youth championship

Once a promising young star of Vietnamese women's volleyball, she delivered an unforgettable performance on the domestic stage.

On July 21, 2025, the final matchday of the women's group stage at the 2025 National U23 Volleyball Championship held in Thái Nguyên concluded with many dramatic moments. The highlight of the day was the explosive performance of young outside hitter Đặng Thị Hồng in the clash between host team Thái Nguyên and Thông tin - BĐ19, where the 2006-born spiker made a strong impression with her impressive scoring ability.

According to statistics, Đặng Thị Hồng scored 54 points —an outstanding figure at the U23 level with an attack efficiency close to 60%, plus 1 direct point from a service ace. Facing a highly rated opponent like Thông tin - BĐ19, Thái Nguyên adopted a clear strategy: to focus the ball heavily on their top scorer, hoping to create an upset against the experienced military team.

On the court, Đặng Hồng not only maintained consistent attacking form with her high approach jump and powerful floor spikes but also showed marked improvement in defense. However, against a well-rounded and resilient team, the young outside hitter's individual efforts were not enough to turn the tide. The hosts accepted a 1-3 loss with set scores of 23-25, 23-25, 29-27, and 19-25.

Born in 2005 in Pác Nặm, formerly Bắc Kạn (now Bằng Thành Commune, Thái Nguyên), Đặng Hồng lacks exceptional height but compensates with explosive jumping, powerful spikes, and a dynamic attacking style, often compared to her senior Nguyễn Thị Bích Tuyền.

Not only shining brightly in domestic youth competitions, Đặng Thị Hồng also proved herself on continental and global stages. In 2024, she played a crucial role in helping Vietnam's U20 team finish 5th at the Asian Championship held in Jiangmen, China, earning a historic ticket to the U21 World Championship in Surabaya, Indonesia, in August 2025.

At that tournament, Đặng Thị Hồng was in outstanding form, scoring 83 points over 4 matches and significantly contributing to Vietnam U21's early qualification for the round of 16. However, a major setback struck Vietnamese youth volleyball when FIVB (the International Volleyball Federation) imposed a sanction, nullifying the results of the first four matches against U21 Indonesia, U21 Serbia, U21 Canada, and U21 Argentina, dropping the team to the bottom of Group A and forcing them to compete in the 17th-24th place classification matches. The young outside hitter from the former Bắc Kạn province was also disqualified from this tournament.

The 2005-born talent later received an additional sanction from the Vietnam Volleyball Federationand was barred from participating in VFV-organized competitions, leading to her departure from professional volleyball.

After retiring, Đặng Thị Hồng was supported to pursue university studies and transitioned into coaching. Additionally, she actively engages in online sales of sports products to support her livelihood.
