Vietnamese women's volleyball giant joins two foreign clubs in less than one year

These mark strong progress in the career of the 1.95-meter tall attacker.

Middle blocker Lý Thị Luyến continues her overseas journey by signing to play for Nakhon Ratchasima in the Thai national league. This is a notable move for Vietnamese women's volleyball in early 2026.

According to her management, Lý Thị Luyến will head to Thailand after the Lunar New Year holiday and join the team from the second phase of the season. She is expected to depart in March. The short-term contract ends on April 5, allowing the middle blocker from Lào Cai Sports University to return home in time for the first phase of the 2026 national championship.

Before joining Nakhon Ratchasima, the 1.95-meter tall middle blocker had a stint in Mongolia with Hobby Ace. In her first season abroad, Lý Luyến and her team secured the runner-up position in the national league — a commendable achievement marking progress in her career.

Lý Thị Luyến is one of four Vietnamese female volleyball players currently playing overseas. Outside hitter Trần Thị Thanh Thúy and middle blocker Trần Thị Bích Thủy compete in Japan for Gunma Green Wings and Okayama Seagulls respectively, while outside hitter Vi Thị Như Quỳnh plays for Medan Falcons in Indonesia’s national league. All are key pillars of the national team.

Previously, Vietnamese women's volleyball had representatives in Thailand such as Đoàn Thị Lâm Oanh, Hoàng Thị Kiều Trinh, and Đinh Thị Trà Giang, and before them players like Bích Thủy, Trịnh Thị Khánh, Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Hoa, Thanh Thúy, Đỗ Thị Minh, and Nguyễn Thị Kim Liên.

With a solid professional foundation and international experience gained over time, Lý Thị Luyến is expected to make a strong impact in Thailand before returning to serve Lào Cai Sports University in the first phase of this year's national championship.
