Tran Thi Thanh Thuy scores on par with a European star against Japan's runner-up team.

Tran Thi Thanh Thuy racks up points "like a machine" versus the Japanese silver medalists at the SV.League volleyball competition.

Gunma Green Wings showed improved performance but still lost 1-3 to NEC Red Rockets in the March 1st match of the SV.League 2025/26. The sets ended with scores of 21-25, 25-21, 20-25, and 20-25.

Following a 0-3 defeat to the same NEC team the previous day, Gunma entered the rematch with a visibly better spirit. The return of Polish outside hitter Olivia Rozanski helped the home team share the offensive load with Tran Thi Thanh Thuy.

This energetic duo played vigorously, enabling Gunma to create a more competitive match and secure one winning set.

Thanh Thuy continued to be the standout performer. The captain of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team scored 22 points (21 attack points, 1 block point), achieving a 43.75% success rate.

She tied as Gunma's top scorer with Polish star Rozanski and was the match's third-highest scorer overall, behind NEC's Ai Hirota (25 points) and Yoshino Sato (23 points). Maintaining high efficiency against the league-leading team demonstrates the Vietnamese outside hitter's caliber and composure.

However, facing a deep and well-balanced NEC squad, coach Masayasu Sakamoto's team could not pull off an upset. This marks another loss for Gunma against this opponent, extending their unfavorable head-to-head record in recent seasons.

Although the result was not as desired, Thanh Thuy's performance remains a positive sign, affirming her pivotal role within the Japanese club.
