One of the foreign players who once "made waves" in the national championship arena has officially made a comeback.
The Chinese opposite hitter - Cai Xiaoqing will return to play for XMLS Thanh Hoa, competing in Stage 1 of the 2026 Women's National Volleyball Championship held in Dong Anh, Hanoi this coming April.
This is welcome news for fans of Thanh Hoa volleyball in particular and Vietnam in general, as Cai Xiaoqing is a high-caliber attacker who previously demonstrated her ability in the Vietnamese National Championship nearly two years ago.
Cai Xiaoqing was born in 1998 and is currently a player for Henan Shuanghui Volleyball Team. Besides playing as an opposite hitter, Cai can also perform as a setter. This attacker has not yet had the opportunity to play for the Chinese National Team, but she left her mark at the youth level by winning the 2016 U19 Asian Championship - earning the Best Opposite Hitter award - and the U21 World Championship the following year.
During Stage 1 of the 2024 National Championship, Cai Xiaoqing played for XMLS Thanh Hoa and quickly showed her integration and excellent ability to "carry the team." Standing at 1.80m tall, Cai possesses a diverse set of attacking skills and solid back-row defense. Whether executing attacks from the wing or behind the 3-meter line, the Chinese opposite hitter consistently shook the opponents' block.
It was precisely the talent of this 27-year-old attacker that helped XMLS Thanh Hoa become an interesting phenomenon in the 2024 season, finishing Stage 1 among the top 4 strongest clubs.
Afterwards, there were numerous rumors that the Chinese attacker would soon return to play in Vietnam, but it wasn't until early 2026 that those speculations became reality.
With Cai Xiaoqing in the lineup, under the guidance of talented coach Bui Huy Son, XMLS Thanh Hoa will once again be a formidable team in this year's National Championship. The team has also made quality additions with setter Ton Thi Minh Thu and veteran libero Nguyen Thi Kim Lien.
