The President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation has made a statement after tensions increased in the Middle East in recent days.
On March 1, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) sent a message to its member federations in the Gulf region and Iran, expressing deep concern over the escalating crisis.
Asian Volleyball Confederation President Ramon Suzara wrote: "To the esteemed members of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Executive Board. Today, I am writing regarding the ongoing crisis in the Gulf region and Iran. On behalf of the entire Asian Volleyball Confederation, I wish to express our deepest concern for all those affected by these extremely troubling circumstances."

The AVC sends a message of support and solidarity to its members in the Gulf region
"First and foremost, I sincerely hope that you, your families, and your loved ones are safe. Please know that we are thinking of you and earnestly praying for this crisis to be resolved swiftly and peacefully."
The AVC President continued: "In these difficult times, our volleyball community must stand united. I affirm that the AVC is ready to support the member federations in the Gulf and Iran in every possible way. We are fully committed to standing with you through this challenging period. Stay safe, and let us remain strong and united in spirit."
In 2026, the AVC plans to organize 10 indoor events, including the Asian Men's U18 Championship in Manama (Bahrain) in July, along with tournaments in South Korea, Indonesia, India, Thailand, China, and Japan. There will be 13 beach volleyball events, including a stage in Doha (Qatar) in October.
Iranian television channel Al Mayadeen reported on February 28 that an airstrike targeting a sports hall in southern Iran resulted in the deaths of 20 female volleyball athletes.
On February 28, the United States and Israel conducted a series of airstrikes against targets in Iran, including the capital Tehran. Iran subsequently carried out retaliatory missile attacks on Israeli territory as well as U.S. military facilities in the Middle East.
