The World Federation (FIVB) stated it is profoundly shocked and saddened by the news of young volleyball players in Iran who died as security conditions in the Middle East intensify.
Following the tragic news of 20 Iranian female volleyball players who lost their lives in a devastating airstrike, the Federation volleyball world (FIVB) extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and expressed sympathy for all those affected by the ongoing crisis.
According to FIVB, beyond the heartbreaking losses recently reported, tens of thousands of members of the volleyball community in the region are also being displaced, facing instability and an uncertain future. The current situation directly threatens the lives, careers, and safety of many athletes, coaches, staff, and volunteers.
In light of this, FIVB's top priority is ensuring the utmost safety for all individuals within the volleyball system who are living, working, or present in conflict-affected areas. The Federation has swiftly established a task force to urgently and effectively advance humanitarian support efforts. This group will work closely with national governments, non-governmental organizations, and relevant agencies to implement necessary assistance measures as soon as possible.
Furthermore, FIVB reaffirms its commitment to core values such as cooperation, dialogue, peace, and solidarity. In this spirit, the Federation calls on the international community to jointly work towards de-escalating tensions, seeking peaceful solutions, and safeguarding the safety of civilians and athletes in the region.
